Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has stated again that if he is elected president of Nigeria in 2023, he will reduce insecurity and poverty.
The former Anambra governor stated that he expects to achieve this through job creation and reformative investments. He also stated that he will shift the country’s economy from a consumer to a productive mode.
Obi made the announcement in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter page on Thursday, following a summit organised by his party with Nigerian youths.
“After we win the 2023 elections, we intend to use the instruments of job creation and regenerative investments to drastically reduce the high incidence of insecurity and poverty, while transitioning the economy from a consumptive to a productive mode,” he tweeted.
“Without a doubt, the greatest challenge we face, aside from poor leadership, is a lack of elite consensus.” But, as Dante Alighieri warned, “the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.”
Obi also stated that history is relevant in decision making, stating that the division of Nigeria must be avoided by voting correctly. He also stated that if he is elected president, he will put an end to the criminality surrounding oil subsidies.
“History must be used as a decision-making tool.” Nigeria’s implosion has long been predicted. The year 2023 could be a watershed moment in our history. That must not happen, even if the choices before the electorate appear stark.
“In the future, we must look for ways to transition Nigeria away from oil.” We must put an end to this heinous crime known as “oil subsidy.” “Today, Nigeria is vastly polarised and wrecked by deep religious, ethnic, and regional divisions,” Obi added.
“Finally, our structure is everyone seated in this hall today!” said the former governor, who has been widely chastised for lacking structures to help him win the election. Yes, we have a plan, and we are willing to move mountains to save Nigeria.”
