Alhaji Musa Danhassan, Chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Katsina State Chapter, has stated that over 400 poultry farms have been closed due to insecurity in parts of the state.
Danhassan stated this in a Thursday interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina.
He claimed that if the government does not take decisive action against bandits and kidnappers operating in the state, more poultry farmers will go out of business.
“This is extremely unfortunate. The poultry farms were located in high-risk areas where banditry and kidnapping were common, forcing the farmers to flee for their lives.
“Everyone knows that a poultry farm cannot be established in a town or city; it must be on the outskirts or in a village.”
“That is where the birds will get enough space and air, but bandits and kidnappers have refused to give us breathing space, so no one will want to risk their lives there.”
“Unfortunately, the state’s poultry farmers have been forced out of business and into poverty,” the chairman said.
