Canadian Blood Services is looking for an ongoing part-time permanent laboratory technician in Canada to join our dynamic Production team in Brampton. In this role, you will be accountable for the regular examination of production-related activities throughout the day and ensuring the Quality Control procedures & requirements are followed within the department to ensure that all regulations comply and operating standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

The responsibilities of a Laboratory Technician in Canada include the following:

  • Performs routine tasks and reviews of all production-related activities by operational procedures.
  • Controls the flow in the incoming stream and prepares the production shipments scheduled to leave following the operating processes.
  • Performs routine equipment operations and performs maintenance tasks according to operating guidelines.
  • Assists in monitoring and reviewing equipment utilized in production and other areas per operating procedures.
  • Maintains a supply of materials. Helps supervisory staff with counting inventory and general order of supplies and consumables. Also examines supply deliveries by the system for operating traditionally.
  • Maintains the highest standards of service for customers that are both internal and external. Ensures that the employees are continuously trained.
  • Participates in ongoing improvements.
  • Other tasks related to this are as required.

Education training, experience, and education as a Lab Technician in Canada:

  • You must be accredited by the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT) is required to accredit you.
  • Or a Technologist with relevant experience must be officially in Canada.
  • Or formal or equivalent post-secondary education, one year of laboratory experience, or comparable education. An example of this would be a BSc or MSc in a relevant Health Sciences Discipline.
  • Experience with computers is required. Computer skills are required.
  • Qualifications and skills are needed to utilize manual tools, create and maintain accurate documentation with initiative, perform tasks on your own, and carry out repetitive tasks in a structured manner.
  • It is vital to work shifts on weekends and weekends as well as calls.
