Enyimba secured an unprecedented ninth Nigeria Premier League title by holding Rivers United to a 1-1 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Sunday night.
Under the guidance of coach Finidi George, Enyimba topped the Super Six playoffs with nine points from five matches. Their impressive performance earned them a coveted spot in the upcoming CAF Champions League.
Ekenne Awazie put Enyimba in the lead with a goal in the 37th minute, but Rivers United swiftly equalized just three minutes into the second half as Nyima Nwagua found the back of the net from inside the box.
Remo Stars finished in the runner-up position, securing a historic qualification for the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
Rivers United, the dethroned champions, concluded the competition in third place, earning themselves a qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.
