The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning regarding a batch of contaminated Sprite 50cl glass bottles that are circulating in Nigeria.
In an official statement released by NAFDAC’s management, it was revealed that the discovery of the product was made after a consumer lodged a complaint, which was subsequently investigated by the post-marketing surveillance unit of the agency.
The statement explained that the affected batch, identified as BN: AZ6 22:32, consists of more than five crates of Sprite 50cl glass bottles with a manufacturing date (MFD: 180423). These bottles were found to be contaminated with foreign particles.
To address the issue, NAFDAC has taken samples from the implicated batch of the unwholesome product for laboratory analysis at their own facility. Additionally, the agency has instructed all zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance and retrieve the contaminated batch from the market.
Furthermore, NAFDAC has directed the Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (Abuja plant), the responsible company, to initiate a recall of the implicated batch and cooperate with NAFDAC for thorough monitoring.
NAFDAC has also urged individuals who possess the contaminated Sprite 50cl glass bottles to surrender their stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Simultaneously, the agency has advised distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and refrain from consuming, selling, or distributing any unwholesome products.
