The strange death of four family members who were allegedly eating the meal known as “Amala” had the residents of Mopa town in the Mopa-Muro Local Government Area of Kogi State go into mourning.
In a short period of time between Friday, September 30, and Sunday, October 2, the deceased passed away.
The family patriarch, Pa. Motilewa, two children, and a young woman who is rumoured to be a relative were all killed.
A teacher in the town with a National Certificate of Education, Motun was one of the deceased daughters. But miraculously, the mother lived.
Residents of the town and the surrounding area are in mourning, terror, and confusion as a result of the incident, and many are calling for an investigation into the killing.
It was learned that the family used the leftover cassava flour from which they had previously cooked and consumed “Fufu” to make the “Amala” meal. The processed shafts were reportedly stretched out in the sun for a few days to dry.
They utilised the soft powder created from the dried flakes to make “Amala,” which they consumed on Thursday night before going to bed.
The victims reportedly fell ill over night, and efforts were made to stabilise them, according to an eyewitness. Sadly, the family’s youngest member went away on Friday, and the relative who was staying with the family soon after died on Saturday.
The rest were transferred to the well regarded ECWA Hospital in Egbe after the sudden passing for better medical care.
