Four people were killed and one was saved in the building that fell at Oye Sonuga Street and Palm Avenue in Mushin, Lagos, according to the National Emergency Management Agency on Friday.
The NEMA South-West Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, reportedly spoke during a phone interview, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. In the building fall, he said that one person was saved and that two men and two women perished.
The Lagos State Government has already declared its intention to look into the collapse’s causes. The information was made in a statement that NAN was able to receive from the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins.
He ordered its immediate demolition for safety concerns and to prevent further collapse while on site of the three-story structure, which was estimated to be around 40 years old. He gave the go-ahead for the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory and the Lagos State Building Control Agency to determine what caused the collapse.
After the building’s remaining components were destroyed, the occupants made an effort to rescue their possessions.
Additionally, it was noted that some areas of the next building were impacted by the collapsing structure.
Several of the occupants told one of our reporters that the building had displayed signals of distress.
The three-story building, which was thought to be roughly 40 years old, was ordered to be demolished immediately out of concern for safety and to stop additional collapse while it was still in place. He authorised the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory to ascertain the reason of the collapse.
The occupants tried to save their belongings after the building’s remaining parts were demolished.
It was also discovered that the collapsed structure had an effect on several portions of the building directly adjacent to it.
