Who is eligible to participate in the USA Visa Lottery
Before we go into detail about eligibility, be aware that this is only a period for applicants for the Diversity Visa. This is because this program is only available for a brief period each fiscal year.

First, the USA VISA Lottery Program is not open to all countries. The general rule is that immigrants from countries with low levels of immigration into the United States are eligible for admission.
Country
Natives of certain countries in six geographic regions can apply for Diversity Visas. These areas include Africa, Asia (Europe), North America/Oceania, South America/Central America, Central America, South America, Central America, Central America, and The Caribbean. Eligibility for USA Visa Lottery Application
Requirement #1: Some applicants may be permitted admission if they are native-born.
There are two other options if your birthplace is not eligible.
- Are you and your spouse from a country with low levels of immigration to the United States? If so, you may be eligible to claim your spouse’s native country if both are listed on that entry. Once deemed qualified, you will be issued diversity visas that allow you to enter the United States simultaneously.
- Are you from an area with high immigration rates to the United States? If so, are your parents legally or biologically born in that country? If yes, you could claim your birthplace country as the parent of your father or mother as long as the nation’s residents are eligible under the DV-2022 program.
Requirement #2: All DV applicants must satisfy the requirements for work experience or education in DV programs. These include a minimum of a high-school education or equivalent and 12 years of formal secondary schooling.
OR
Two years of work experience for the last five years is necessary. This Department of State will use O*Net Online from the U.S. Department of Labor to determine the basic work experience level.
Attention: You must meet both these criteria before you submit an entry for the DV program.
Participants must submit entries to the DV program online at dvlottery.state.gov from October 1st (GMT-4) through November 1st. 3. Each year. It’s a one-year program. Please submit entries on time.
Late and paper entries are accepted. Only one person may enter for each period. The Department of State also processes multiple entries through sophisticated technology.
