Governor Alex C. Otti to Newly Inaugurated Abia Assembly Members: Remember the people who elected you

The Abia State governor today charged the newly inaugurated members of the State House of Assembly to be conscious of the reason they were sent to the state parliament by their constituents, advising them to put the people first when making decisions.

The 24 Member House was inaugurated this Wednesday with Labour Party’s Emmanuel Emeruwa, representing Aba South State Constituency emerging Speaker of the House while Austine Okezie of Umuahia East State Constituency was elected deputy speaker.

Speaking briefly after the election of the leaders, Dr. Otti encouraged the members to be open to working with the executive for the good of the State. The governor pointed that in a democracy, disagreements are bound to occur but advised that even in moments of arguments and debates the welfare of the people must remain paramount.

The inauguration ceremony which took place at the State Assembly Complex was witnessed by friends, family members and political associates of the lawmakers.

Also present at the event were members of the State Executive Council including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ken Kalu, the chief of staff, Dr. Caleb Ajagba and several others.
