President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on his first official trip overseas since assuming office on Monday, May 29, 2023. He will join world leaders in Paris, France, on Thursday to review and sign a New Global Financial Pact. This pact aims to prioritize support and investment in vulnerable countries that have been severely impacted by climate change, the energy crisis, and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, Mr. Dele Alake, it was announced that President Tinubu will participate in the two-day Summit from June 22 to 23. The summit will focus on restoring fiscal space to countries facing short-term financial challenges, particularly those with high levels of debt. It will also explore innovative financing solutions for nations vulnerable to climate change, promote development in low-income countries, and encourage investment in “green” infrastructure for the energy transition in emerging and developing economies.
President Tinubu, along with other global leaders, multilateral institutions, financial experts, and economists, will take a comprehensive approach to address the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing prevalence of poverty. The goal is to provide access to finance and investment that will drive inclusive growth.
Hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France, the summit will take place at Palais Brongniart. President Tinubu will be accompanied by members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and senior government officials. He is expected to return to Abuja on Saturday.
