The Federal Government registered two unions in the university system on Tuesday in an effort to reduce the power of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The two unions are the Congress of Nigerian University Academics and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics.
The two unions will coexist with ASUU, according to Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Productivity, who spoke as he handed the certificates of registration to the two organisations.
As of February 14, 2022, according to The PUNCH, ASUU has been on strike in protest over unpaid allowances and in demand of a better welfare package from the Federal Government from academics at public universities.
