Disfranchised Electorates of Arochukwu and Ohafia Trooped INEC Office Umuahia in protest

Sequel to the action of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the 25th day of February, 2023 which disfranchised over 100 polling units, in Ohafia and Arochukwu LGAs, the aggrieved electorates took over the street of Umuahia on Saturday 4th March 2023 and marched to INEC Office Umuahia to protest the irregularities encountered in some areas of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

They protested over the announcement of winners for Abia North Senate seat and Arochukwu/Ohafia House of Rep Member even when the election is inconclusive.

It will be recalled that INEC announced to the general public that their will be a rescheduled conduct of elections at the affected areas on 27th February, 2023 by 8am. The electorates sequel to the announcement were ready waiting for materials to arrive at their Polling Units, to their utmost dismay Winners were announced. The grieved protesters demand that INEC should conduct elections in their areas so that their votes will count.

The affected areas includes Isiama Ward, Okamu Ward and Agboji Abiriba (Ohafia LGA). Also affected are Arochukwu III, Ohaeke and Ututu (Arochukwu L. G. A.).

They were all seen with placards and flex banners with inscriptions showing their grievances. They were also chanting “Our Vote must Count”!
