Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Takes Action: Suspends Permanent Secretaries and Head of Service

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has taken decisive action by suspending all permanent secretaries across various ministries, agencies, and departments in the state. The suspension of the permanent secretaries and the Head of Service was confirmed in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kazie Uko, on Thursday evening.

The Governor’s directive comes in the wake of the inauguration of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the Recovery of Properties and Funds belonging to the Abia State Government. The move aims to ensure a thorough investigation and proper management of the state’s resources.

As part of the changes, Lady Joy Maduka, the Director of the Ministry of Education, has been appointed as the Acting Head of Service (HOS) in the interim. Furthermore, John Pedro Iroakazi, the Clerk of the House, and Mrs. U. G. Uche Ikonne, the Solicitor General, have been instructed to hand over their responsibilities to the most senior Directors in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The suspension of the permanent secretaries and the reorganization of key positions demonstrate Governor Otti’s commitment to effective governance and the pursuit of accountability in Abia State. The government aims to ensure transparency and efficiency in the administration and utilization of the state’s resources for the benefit of the people.

GOVERNMENT OF ABIA STATE

ABIA SUSPENDS PERMANENT SECRETARIES, HEAD OF SERVICE, APPOINTS ACTING HOS

Following the inauguration of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the Recovery of Properties and Funds belonging to Abia State Government, the Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has directed the immediate suspension of the Head of Service (HOS) and all Permanent Secretaries in the State civil service.

Consequently, the Governor has approved the appointment of Lady Joy Maduka, Director, Ministry of Education, as Acting Head of Service (HOS).

All the Permanent Secretaries, except the following:

1. John-Pedro Irokansi – Clerk of the House;

2. Mrs. U. G. Uche Ikonne – Solicitor General

are by this notice directed to hand over to the most senior Director in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

This directive takes immediate effect.
