Elisha Tari, 25, of Michika Local Government Area in Adamawa State has been detained on suspicion of murdering two of his children.
The suspect, who is from Himikidu, Michika LGA, is accused of hitting two of his children, who are three and five years old, with a stone and a stick.
Suleiman Nguroje, a state police spokeswoman, highlighted in a statement on Saturday that the suspect was taken into custody on August 18, 2022.
According to Nguroje, the accused was detained after the victim’s grandfather filed a report at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Michika.
The victim’s mother and the suspect split up two months ago after having a disagreement, according to preliminary investigation, Nguroje continued.
He claimed that the suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee to the Cameroon Republic and was being looked into for the horrible killing of his own children.
He added that the deputy commissioner of police had been instructed to take charge of the investigation and secure the suspect’s punishment in order to serve as a deterrence to others after state commissioner of police Sikiru Akande had expressed grief over the callous act.
He urged the populace to notify the police immediately of any crimes committed in their neighbourhoods.
