A lawyer arresting for assulting an orderly police officer

Prof. Zainab Abiola, a lawyer and human rights campaigner, has been detained by the police after she is accused of assaulting an Abuja police orderly.

It was believed that her orderly, Inspector Teju Moses, had been the cause of the alleged assault since he refused to help around the house.

After a video clip went viral on Wednesday, Abiola and her housekeeper Rebecca Enechido were both taken into custody.

The cop can be seen in the footage sitting on the ground, bleeding, and requesting to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

In a statement released yesterday, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the Professor’s detention and said Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali has ordered that the accused be prosecuted.

The preliminary inquiry reveals strong proof of responsibility on the side of the professor and her domestic workers, and the IGP has ordered the direct prosecution of the suspects who have been detained and are currently in police custody.

The investigative team has also been given a mandate by the IGP to make sure that the fleeing suspect is apprehended and brought to justice. It is important to make clear that, contrary to what has been falsely propagated on social media, Prof. Zainab, the suspect, has no acquaintance with the police in any way. She mentions the IGP, his family, and other personnel in the highest hierarchy of the force.
