The Independence park located in the environment of the Aggrey Memorial Model College built in remembrance of the the Nigerian Educationist, Mazi Alvan Ikokwu (Blessed Memory).
The Independence park was built with the picture of late Alvan Ikokwu who was Brought into the world on August 1, 1900, in Amanagwu Arochukwu, present-day Abia State, from 1911 to 1914, he was instructed at the Arochukwu Government Primary School and from 1915 to 1920, he went to Hope Waddell College, Calabar where he was an understudy under James Emmanuel Aggrey and was mates with Akanu Ibiam and Eyo Esua. In 1932, Ikoku laid out a Co-Educational Secondary School in West Africa: the Aggrey Memorial Secondary School, situated in Arochukwu and named after his tutor James E.K. Aggrey, a famous Ghanaian educationist. In 1946, after a few sacred changes permitting more Nigerians in the authoritative chambers, he was designated toward the Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly and relegated to the service of training. In 1947 he turned out to be important for the Legislative Council in Lagos as one of three delegates of the Eastern Region.
